What is Double Chin?

A double chin is just that, a section of skin that hangs down under your existing chin to make it look like you have two (or more chins). This may be a cause of embarrassment and contributes to appearing older than you are. The cause of a double chin can be as simple as aging or weight gain; howerever, many families suffer from a hereditary predisposition to them.

According to a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 68% of those surveyed felt that excessive fat in the chin and neck area was a major cosmetic concern to treat. In the past, surgical procedures such as liposuction and neck lifts were performed to treat these conditions and resulted in down time from work and social activities. Recently, however, the FDA approved a non-surgical alternative to treating this aesthetic disorder.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, which destroys fat cells in the chin, thereby decreasing fat volume and neck fullness. Deoxycholic acid is a natural occurring substance in the human body that regulates the amount of fat stored. Kybella is used to treat patients with moderate to severe neck fullness or double chin. The treatment takes between 15-20 minutes and involves injections of Kybella in the submental area of the neck and chin.

Patients usually require 3-6 treatments no less than one month apart.

Results with Kybella

Patients will notice that the results are permanent unless a patient experiences weight gain. Based on clinical research, patients should experience approximately a 10%, 20%, 35%, 60%, 70%, and 80% improvement on their double chin after the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth treatments respectively.
